Department tells advisory board it is retaining a third-party shelter evaluation

The January 10, 2024 advisory board agenda listed a "2024 staff review of city ordinances" and a "3rd party comprehensive shelter evaluation." The minutes say AM&W was "in the process of retaining a 3rd party comprehensive shelter evaluation service (Animal Shelter Services, Inc.)", described as "a key component in building a strategic plan for long-term goals," and was moving forward with renovating the shelter operations building and a kennel refresh at a facility built in 1972. The department reported 2023 outcomes of 1,987 adoptions, 1,431 transfers to rescues, 1,251 returns to owners and 398 barn-cat placements, and listed open positions including three animal care workers and three officer trainees.[1][2]
