Council shortens the Proposition D ballot language and rewrites Proposition A's
Ordinance 8149 condensed the ballot text of Proposition D (recall) after the Potter and Randall County election administrators said it was too long for paper and electronic ballots; it passed 5-0 on first reading August 27 and on the September 10 consent agenda. On September 10 the council also voted 5-0 for Resolution 09-10-24-1, choosing "option #3" ballot language for Proposition A, with both county election administrators present.[1][2][3]

The staff memo for Ordinance 8149 said the Randall and Potter County election administrators identified challenges fitting the Proposition D ballot language onto paper mail ballots and electronic voting machines. The ordinance replaced the latter part of the Proposition D text with "to provide for a validation period and notice to the elected officer and City Council with corresponding recall limitations." It passed 5-0 on first reading August 27, 2024 (Craft, second Simpson) and on second reading on the September 10, 2024 consent agenda, also 5-0. [2][1][3]
