City Secretary says the Charter bars a new initiative on the subject for three years
City Secretary Stephanie Coggins said the vote was the "end of the road" for the ordinance and that, under Article II, Section 23 of the Charter, the City Secretary may not accept the registration of an initiating committee or petition on a subject that has been the subject of a public election within the preceding three years. The Amarillo Tribune reported that this would bar the ordinance from returning to the ballot by that route until 2027.[1][2]
